Black and White photo of La Grande Arche in La Defence, Paris, France. It is also known as Arche de la Défense, whereas the official name is Grande Arche de la Fraternité.

I don’t know why perspective distortion is so much disliked. I like it and think is can add to a picture, instead of disturbing it. Take this shot for example. It shows the Grande Arche de la Defence, in Paris. This building/monument is huge. It is difficult to transport size in an image, but the distortion helps, I think. It emphasizes the frog’s perspective. Were the building rendered flat, with parallel lines, this effect would be lost.

The district of La Defence is very interesting for (architectural) photography. It’s not at all what one expects of pictures from Paris. No small streets or old buildings and classical monuments, but large skyscrapers. The Arche is something like the center for this, but there are other interesting subjects. So, more of my black and white shots to come.

I’ve returned from Brittany, after almost 12 hours of driving, nearly half of the time through really strange weather. It looked (and sounded) like the bottom of a swamp, but included more water and less light. Then we came across a german police street blockade near Aachen, they were catching participants of an illegal car race through europe. Looking for cars worth 100,000 euro upwards they luckily ignored a poor astronomy student :-) .

France was great as usually, frequent wether changes made the sky look interesting and thus I shot about 15 rolls of film. I still have some more around for developing, so it will take time until I post the first pictures. At least two or three weeks, I suppose.
